Hi, I’m Jill

I am fueled by my own passion for understanding the nuances of cross-cultural education. I consider myself a forever student; eager to build a stronger academic foundation in Spanish in this country. And my philosophy is simple:  If you are having fun, you will learn.

I have lived and taught in the Dominican Republic and have been teaching here in the United States for over 25 years. I have initiated many language programs, with not only a focus on teaching Spanish language acquisition, but I also have experience in writing a full curricular program that covers all grade levels. The scope and sequence covers not only language immersion, but also culture and history.

I have a bachelor's degree in Foreign Language from Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ.  I love teaching Spanish in the private sector, as it gives me the ability to be creative and teach in the environment that my class and I, collaboratively, design. Having the ability to set the stage and create an environment that will enhance the learning of my students, is an enormous benefit.  When instructors use activities that make learning engaging and fun, students are more willing to participate and take risks.  Having fun while learning also helps students retain information better because the process is enjoyable and memorable.

My background is varied…

I have taught Spanish in numerous environments, modifying for all age-levels. I have experience teaching globally and here in the United States. I can teach the preschool-aged child and the college-aged individual. I use a unique approach and am passionate about Foreign Language educational advantages, and how they can impact absolutely anyone who wants to learn.

I am a privately contracted Spanish teacher in the preschool sector. My beginner’s Spanish program is designed to expose and work with young learners from ages 2 to 5 in Spanish language acquisition and exposure to another language.

I also currently work with college students and adult learners, in a non-credited extension course helping  individuals learn the fundamentals of Spanish, as well as exposing students to culture and history.

Activities that I have designed, are done with developmental expectations in mind. In addition to lesson planning and presentation, lessons are designed to integrate mind and body, thus enhancing the learning experience and creating a skillset necessary for language exposure.

Learning a language through music, interactive games, and verbal instruction has been proven to successfully wire a child’s or adult’s brain to communicate in a second language.

I value diversity and strive for inclusion across world language teaching and learning contexts. I believe that language skills are essential in a world that is connected across borders and through technology.

A world language is a form of communication, essential to the culture of a community. When you learn another language you become a new person. Language is a core component of education for ALL students.
